The Philippines prepare for impact as the first 2017 SKINPACT Awards are presented
The first of the 2017 SKINPACT Awards were presented in Manila on Tuesday, 7 November 2017, with the innovative projects developed by the Partners In Leprosy Action (PILA), and the Philippine Leprosy Society and Philippine Dermatology Society, being awarded well-deserved grants that will see them come to life.
The two Community Vote Awards, presented by Mr. François BLANCHETTE of SKINPACT Awards, alongside 2017 Expert Panelist Dr. Jasmin JAMORA and sponsored by Galderma, were voted for by the international dermatology community in each of the two SKINPACT Awards categories.

PILA project leader, Dr. Belen DOFITAS of the Philippines Leprosy Mission, accepted the Community Vote Award in the "Community Leadership" category on behalf of the PILA project team. PILA brings together various stakeholders in an innovative integrated approach to the control and eradication of five skin-related Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) prevalent in the Philippines.
The Community Vote Award in the Excellence in Education category was accepted by SCHISTO DERE LAKSI’s project leader, Dr. Mirla TAIRA. The entertaining and ‘mass appeal’ approach to the early recognition of Schistosomiasis, utilizing a film and comic book to educate the community of Eastern Samar in the Philippines, was developed by the Philippine Leprosy Society and the Philippine Dermatology Society.
“It was a memorable Awards Ceremony that provided a considerable boost to two deserving projects that will positively impact patients locally and likely beyond,” stated Mr. BLANCHETTE.
The ceremony, which took place at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Hotel, Ortigas, was attended by international and local representatives of Galderma, leaders of Philippine National Dermatological Society and National Patient Organization, along with the winning project team members and representatives.
The remaining 2017 SKINPACT Awards will be presented at ceremonies in Kochi, India in January 2018 and on the Gold Coast, Australia in May 2018.
