See It to Believe It - indoor tanning graphic warning labels for skin cancer prevention
Excellence in Education Category
Skin cancer is common but largely preventable. UV radiation from tanning devices is carcinogenic, but many North Americans continue to indoor tan despite the dangers. Most jurisdictions require indoor tanning warning labels, but they are usually small, text-only, and devoid of images rendering them of limited effectiveness. We have set out to change this by determining the best images for impacting the public’s knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behavioural intentions related to indoor tanning. The evidence generated will be used to inform the creation of indoor tanning graphic warning labels in Canada and beyond.
