Improving the quality of life of patients with Hidradenitis Suppurativa
Excellence in Education Category
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a severely debilitating, chronic, systemic inflammatory disease associated with diminished quality of life (QOL). The majority of HS patients have a fear of intimacy and many experience difficulty conceiving. At the Henry Ford Department of Dermatology (HFDD), a leading referral center for HS in North America, we treat women from family planning to birth. In this project, we aim to outline our treatment algorithms as a guidance for others to follow. We also aim to increase patient awareness and educate providers in screening and management, with each goal leading to a lasting impact in HS QOL.
